Meet The Team
"Dakota Weeda is a Central Oregon dancer in every sense of the phrase! He started his dancing career at the age of 15 as an instructor at the Terpsichorean Dance Studio; the studio that he grew up in. Although he started his teaching career as a Hip Hop instructor, his true passion lays in Tap and Musical Theatre. In 2014 he was honored to take the lead of TDS as the Director and business owner, as well as a teacher. Shortly after he helped to found the local theatrical company, Thoroughly Modern Productions (TMP). In the last five years Mr. Weeda has started numerous community dance opportunities and performances.
Dakota fell in love with dance at a young age. Tagging along to his sisters' dance classes was a regular affair, and before too long he was dancing on the sidelines like everyone else. Through his schooling he trained in Tap, Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theatre. over the years he has attended countless workshops and dancer trainings in all genres. In addition to trainings, Dakota has worked with many local companies to produce dance art for a variety of functions. From local commercials to fifth grade graduations, and musical productions to the Woman of the Year event for Bend Chamber. Mr. Weeda's Musical resume includes Spamalot, Cats, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Rock of Ages, and the Little Mermaid, just to name a few. This Summer he is very excited to be the choreographer and an ensemble member for TMP's Mamma Mia presented by the Tower Theatre.
When he isn't volunteering to teach at a local school or at the studio teaching and directing, you can usually find Dakota outside with his dogs, Meadow and Mia, and his loving family. "Arts are a way to communicate emotions, tell stories, and just connect to other people. So the connections that I have in my personal life are key to inspiring my work and keeping my heart involved." Dakota would like to extend a big thank you to his family for being his biggest supporters in everything he does.
"Since becoming the director of the Terpsichorean Dance Studio my love of dance has grown exponentially. Everyday I get to see the joy on my students' faces and I get to experience the heartfelt love that comes from sharing the passion of dance with others. What I get to do for a job is so much fun; make memories with my students. Although I focus on technique and a proper, quality education, the relationships and community that I get to help build is really at the forefront of my mind. Through thick and thin, my students give my life so much purpose. They really teach me!"
Aprille Chadwell has been teaching at the Terpsichorean Dance Studio since 1996. She has studied jazz, ballet, contemporary, musical theatre, tap and hip hop. Over the years she has trained at workshops such as Edge Performing Arts, NYCDA and LADF where she learned from Mandy Moore (So You Think You Can Dance) as well as teacher trainings in Seattle and San Francisco. She has served several times as Senior Company Director and taken many students over the years to competitions and even to Disneyland to perform.
As a teacher, she brings a level of enthusiasm and dedication that will challenge and inspire her students, and as a choreographer she hopes her passion for expressing one’s self through dance will be instilled in all of her students.
Shelley Knight has been dancing with Terpsichorean Dance Studio since1993 and started teaching in 2003. Shelley has had extensive training in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and musical theater. But where her passion really lays is with Modern. She started her training in Modern with Amanda Blockley in 1999 and has never stopped that training. She has danced with The Magic Circle Dance Theater, performed in plays put on by Cascades Theatrical company, as well as attended classes in many companies in San Francisco for extra training in the style. As well as always upholding her passion for Modern, Shelley has also run the Terpsichorean Funkology Crew for the last 10 years. This year however she is focused on her modern classes to provide the best training for her students as she can. Her goals are to instill self confidence and expression threw dance, and let all of her students dance with all the uninhibited passion modern allows you to show through your movement.
Keturah grew up dancing in Wyoming and Utah. Keturah attended various summer intensives; including Montreal Danse with Kathy Casey, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Keturah has assisted or taught dance since she was eighteen. She has worked at studios in Utah, South Dakota and Alaska. She loves teaching at schools and libraries and watching the wonder of dance show up on new faces. Keturah is currently the studio receptionist and aids in costuming, parent communications, and dance camps for younger students!
Kristi feels like most things in life should be fun...her family has continually taught her how important it is to keep things fresh and interesting. She started dance as a toddler and was in ballet, tap and jazz for several years. Other things she loves include piano, drawing, sports, photography, animals, and occasional outbursts of strange dance moves. A few years ago, Kristi fell in love watching her daughter take Funk I at this TDS. She immediately signed up for the adult class, and the rest is history. Dance hasn't always been part of Kristi's life, but she's always seen an importance in art and expression. She graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Technical Journalism: her studies focused on being able to adapt and simplify communication, which has greatly helped her connect and relate better with kids. In her mind, dance is a great way to be active, creative, build confidence and learn muscle coordination: no matter what age. Kristi LOVES kids, and feels it's so important to create an environment where they can learn and have a great time. Our lives are filled with challenges, which is why it's even more important to have laughter, music, and a little bit of funk. : )
Cindy has had a love for all forms of dance for over 35 years! She started taking tap, ballet, and jazz classes at Pro-Am Dance Studio in Fort Lauderdale, FL when she wa 5 years old and has been dancing ever since. Cindy trained and performed throughout elementary, middle, and high school including many dance competitions around the country. She became a member of the professional dance group, Young Broadway Stars, at age 13 and continued to perform in that group until she went off to college. Cindy was fortunate enough to take many dance classes at the Florida State University’s School of Dance while attending FSU including ballet, jazz and modern. She danced throughout her adult life attending mostly ballet classes in Albuquerque, NM and Honolulu, HI. When Cindy moved to Bend in 2012 she started searching for a local dance studio that offered adult ballet classes and was lucky to find Terpsichorean in the fall of 2013. She has been taking the adult ballet class here since then and is so grateful for the friends she has met through this wonderful studio and for her fellow teachers. Teaching at Terpsichorean is a dream come true for Cindy and she is so excited to share her passion for dance with young dancers.
